Gerry Baptist was born in Lahore in 1935 of British and Portuguese parents and was educated in both India and England.

Baptist studied painting and graphics at Walthamstow School of Art and the London College of Printing. He was taught by the painters/printmakers George Chapman, Ruskin Spear and John Ward and the graphic designers George Adam and Harold Bertram and was awarded the National Diploma in Design.

He worked in graphics in England and Germany. During this period he continued to develop his skills as an artist painting large scale expressionistic abstracts, as well as drawing and sketching from life. He now devotes all his time to painting and printmaking.

He was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 2008.
